Enough ports?
Your internet connection and wired mesh units use Ethernet ports, too. See what is left for your TV, console and computer.
Both need a port.

Your port plan
Four ports doesn't mean four devices.
A four-port main unit, connected to the internet and two wired rooms, has one port left for local devices.
Fill in your rooms and confirm the setup to get your own wiring plan.
A switch needs a place to plug in.
When you add a switch, one port on the mesh unit connects to one port on the switch. The remaining switch ports serve your devices or wired room units.
We keep as many connections directly on the mesh unit as possible, then size one switch at each location that runs out of ports. Switch sizes are suggestions based on port count, not compatibility guarantees.
A device plugged into a wireless room unit still reaches the rest of your network over Wi-Fi. This planner does not predict coverage, real-world speed, or the wireless route between units.

Official port specifications
US manufacturer pages checked November 6, 2026. Hardware revisions and installed firmware are not identified; verify your exact unit before buying. All three selected models list 2.5GbE Ethernet ports.
Where the switch goes
In this router-mode plan, wired room units connect to the main mesh unit or a switch on its LAN side. Keep the main mesh unit between the internet connection and these downstream connections. Follow the manufacturer's setup instructions.

What this small planner covers
Two or three units of the same model; 0–12 ordinary wired devices per location; router mode; no existing switches; one new switch per location if needed. Cable lengths, patch panels, existing switch reuse, mixed models, AP/bridge mode, PoE, IPTV, VLANs and link aggregation are outside this plan. A wireless line is schematic and does not specify the actual wireless parent.
These are port-count calculations, not tested equipment recommendations. Check switch compatibility with the mesh manufacturer. A 1GbE switch can connect at a lower link rate than the listed 2.5GbE ports; a faster label does not guarantee internet speed. We do not rank overall router quality or show live prices.
